ASCEND is psyched to introduce you all to climbing in the great outdoors. After all, that's where this whole climbing thing originated, so let us show you the ropes and our roots.

We are hard at work planning an exciting and educational outdoor guided trip season! Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to spring. We can't wait to show you our favorite crags!

Climb Outside With ASCEND

Generally, the Outdoor Guiding season runs from April through October, weather depending. Here's how you can GET OUTSIDE!

Outdoor Climbing

Outing Descriptions

Intro To Outdoor Top-Roping

If you are interested in climbing outdoors, this is the place to start. Content includes basic crag safety, gear usage, and lots of climbing time while our guides belay. It is recommended that participants be able to climb 5.7/V2 comfortably in a gym setting to maximize enjoyment.

Outdoor Top Roping + Anchor Building

If you love climbing outside and want to learn more about anchor building, this is the outing for you. Content includes the different types of anchors, when to use them, what gear is needed and how to build them. It is recommended that participants be top rope belay certified at ASCEND, have experience climbing indoors and outside, and can climb 5.7/V2 comfortably.

Outdoor Bouldering

If you love bouldering indoors and are looking to take it outside, this is the outing for you. Content includes boulder selection, safety considerations, basic techniques and lots of bouldering time. It is recommended that participants be able to boulder V4 comfortably in the gym.

Climbing + Yoga

If you love climbing and yoga, this outing combines them both for an adventurous and centering day. Content includes lots of top rope climbing bookended by 2 yoga sessions - one to get you warmed up and excited, and one to get you cooled down and calmed. It is recommended that participants be able to climb 5.7/V2 comfortably in a gym setting to maximize enjoyment.

Single Pitch Sport Climbing

If you sport/lead climb indoors and want to transition those skills outside, this is the outing for you. Content includes sport climbing gear usage, best practices for sport climbing and belaying, sport anchor usage and cleaning, and descending and falling appropriately. It is recommended that participants be lead climb and lead belay certified at ASCEND and be able to comfortably climb 5.10+ indoors.

Multipitch Climbing

If you are a competent sport climber who wants to learn the skills to climb bigger walls, this is the outing for you. Content includes building suitable anchors for rappelling, advanced rappelling techniques, how to remove trad gear/protection following a leader, and how to belay from the top. It is recommended that participants be lead climb and lead belay certified at ASCEND and be able to comfortably climb 5.10+ indoors.

Intro to Trad Climbing

If you are an experienced sport climber looking to explore the world of trad climbing, this is the outing for you. Content includes trad gear, concepts related to trad gear placement and removal, following a trad leader, building suitable anchors for belaying/rappelling and belaying from above.
